Obituary for Mamie F. Street Mamie Street, 101, left this life on December 4, 2018 at The Bridge Assisted Living Facility in Longmont, CO. She was born at home on a farm near Westerville, Ohio on September 17, 1917 to John and Nellie Holter. She was the second child with one older brother and three younger brothers.

Her life spans the use of horse and buggy, no indoor plumbing, using coal oil lamps for lights, not having a refrigerator, to all of the conveniences that we enjoy today. She never had a dishwasher at home except for her children. She was in high school during the great depression and it left an indelible mark on her with respect to money and making do with what she had.

When World War II came along, she went to work for Curtiss-Wright making airplanes. She started as “Rosie the Riveter,” installing rivets but then moved to engineering to help manage change orders. Near the end of the war she decided she needed a job with a future so she moved to Kansas City to go to airline school.

She was hired in Kansas City but soon moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to work at that airport. In Tulsa, she met Mack Street and married him within five weeks on May 2, 1946. She continued to work for the airline until her oldest son was born.

They opened their own restaurant in 1958. In 1964, the Street family moved to Strang, Oklahoma so that their three boys would grow up on 300 acres of land. Mamie was involved with her sons and was a staunch proponent of higher education.

She also had a strong work ethic which she passed on to her sons. She contended that if someone else could do or make something then so could she. This attitude was also instilled in her sons.

She was extremely proud of her sons and they meant the world to her. Mamie was a faithful Christian and served throughout her life. She quoted scripture frequently.

She is survived by her three sons and their families, Bill and Mary Ann Street of Midlothian, VA, John and Pam Street of Pearland, TX, and David and Ellen Street of Longmont, CO. She had seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren (with one more on the way). Thank you to The Bridge Assisted Living and Suncrest Hospice for their loving care of Mamie.
