OBITUARY Mamie Jo O’Neal October 4, 1921 – February 1, 2019 Play Tribute Movie Mamie Jo O’Neal, 97, of Chattanooga went to be with the Lord Friday, February 1, 2019. She was born October 4, 1921 and raised in Lenoir City, Tennessee. She came to Chattanooga to go to nursing school at Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing where she earned her RN in 1948.

She worked for many, many years for the Health Department in various capacities. She retired at one point then worked again part-time for the health department to fill in when others were absent. She was a longtime member of Highland Park Baptist Church (Church of the Highlands) attending Sunday School and all services until she was no longer able to drive.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, five brothers, husband C.B. O’Neal, Jr. and her grandson Patrick. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah S. O’Neal of Chattanooga and Gwen Y. Gross and her husband, Ray of Soddy Daisy, TN; two granddaughters, Bridget (Mike) Kemp of Syracuse, NY and Veronica (Bobby Richards) Sumrall of Morristown, TN; two great-grandsons, Isaiah Luckman and Roman Richards; one great granddaughter, Lottie Kemp (to be born very soon); many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Monday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road with the Rev.

Scott McCurdy officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 AM to 1 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
