Obituary for Manuel Armando Velasquez Jr. 1936-2018 Manuel Armando Velasquez, Jr., age 82, a resident of Bosque Farms, NM, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 2, 2018. He was born in El Valle, NM and went to school in El Valle and Penasco. In 1953-1955 Manuel went to Menaul High School.
After high school, he worked at Grants – Kerr McGee. Then he went to NMSU for 3 years. Manuel then decided to marry his high school classmate, Mabel Sabinita Velasquez in 1962, and they were happily married for 56 years.
He worked for the Highway Department for 3 years. In 1965 Manuel worked with the Fish Wildlife department. In 1973 he and Mabel were transferred to Denver Federal Center, where he worked in the Engineering Department as an inspector.
In 1978, after 3 years in Denver, Manuel was transferred back to Albuquerque to work with the U.S. Forest Service, where he retired after 33 years with that job. In 1995 Mabel and Manuel started a preschool at the Daniel Fernandez Rec. Center, teaching preschool for 19 years at The ABC Learning Center.
He was a great story reader. In 2004 Manuel was again the Assistant in the program – The Reading Challenge PLUS. He was a kind-hearted, loving and patient father, husband and grand-father.
Manuel was preceded in death by parents; I. Juan Amadeo and Maria Ernestina Velasquez, sisters; Emelecia and Saidie Quintana, and nephew Anthony Velasquez. He is survived by wife Mabel Velasquez, sons; Manuel Velasquez and Dominick Vorv, grandchildren; Matthew Velasquez, Meaghan, Bradley, Jordan, Harrison, Kiersten, and Hailey Vorv, brother, Octaviano Velasquez, sisters; Adonelia Maestas and Cecilia Rael, nephews ; Lorrie Sedillo, Arlene, Roger Rael, Carlos Quintana, Eileen and Peggy. All Services will take place on Friday, October 5, 2018, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta, beginning with a Visitation at 9:30 AM, a Rosary to be recited at 10:30 AM, a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM and Interment to follow at Valencia Cemetery.
