Obituary for Marcella Plaetz Marcella Plaetz, 95, of Redwood Falls and formerly of Wabasso died Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Wood Dale Home in Redwood Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, June 18, 2018, from 4 until 7 p.m., with parish prayers and Rosary at 6:30 p.m., and will continue on Tuesday, from 10 until 11 a.m., all at the church.

Marcella Frances Plaetz, the daughter of August and Agnes (Fangman) Lensing, was born November 22, 1922 on the family farm near Bancroft, Iowa. In 1924, Marcella moved with her parents and sister Margret to a farm near Wabasso. She was baptized in St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft and received First Communion and Solemn, Confirmation at St. Anne’s Catholic Church.
Marcella attended St. Anne’s Catholic School through the eighth grade and then received her high school education in Wabasso District 640. Following graduation she worked as a bookkeeper for the Wabasso Creamery for seven years. On March 31, 1948, Marcella married Lawrence Plaetz at St. Anne’s Catholic Church.
They lived on farms in the Lucan area and were parishioners of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. The couple moved into Lucan in 1982 where they had a new home built. Marcella was a 60-year member of OLV Catholic Church.
She was very active in the parish, serving on the Parish Council for 10 years. Marcella also served on the Liturgy committee, helped with church laundry, and arranged the church flowers for 20 years. She was a Eucharistic Minister for OLV Church and shut-ins for 17 years, a CCD teacher for 15 years, OLV Catholic Aid Treasurer for 20 years, and held many offices in the CCW.
In 1996, Marcella received the Bishops award for service rendered to the OLV Catholic Church. She belonged to an Extension group in Lucan. Marcella was an excellent seamstress.
She won first prize for a dress she made in high school and, years later, sewed bridesmaid dresses for her daughters’ weddings. Marcella loved to make hand stitched quilts and sewed for all of her children and grandchildren. Most of all, Marcella loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and in-laws.
She is survived by her children Colleen (Roger) Zeman of Big Lake, Steve (Connie) Plaetz of Redwood Falls, Virginia (Bruce) Beckman of Naples, Florida, Justine Plaetz of Redwood Falls, Dennis (Jane) Plaetz of Lucan, and Bernadette (Charlie) Kossler, of Normal, Illinois. Also surviving are her grandchildren LaChelle Sandon, Lisa, Michael, and Christopher Zeman; Jonathan, Carl, and Joshua Plaetz; Shawn and Nathan Beckman; Alecia Plaetz, Rachel Lienemann and Jennifer Plaetz; and Mark and Anthony Kossler. Further surviving are her 20 great-grandchildren; her brother Donald (Jane) Lensing of Wabasso; and her sister Cyrilla McDonald of Wabasso.
