Obituary of Margaret Ann Hicks Margaret Ann Templeton Wall Hicks, 77, passed away January 9, 2019. She was born June 2, 1941 in Iredell County and grew up in Harmony, NC. Her home church was Winthrop Friends Meeting.

Margaret attended Union Grove High School graduating class of 1959. She was very active in her community as the President of Future Homemakers of America, a 4-H club member, high school cheerleader, and Cherry Pie Baking State Champion. She attended Appalachian State Teachers College where she earned her teaching degree.

In 1963 she married the late L. Douglas Wall of Winston-Salem and together they raised three children. Margaret taught school at Griffith and Mineral Springs and later changed careers where she then worked 20+ years in the funeral business at both Salem Funeral Home (formerly Vogler & Sons) and Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home. Margaret was preceded in death by her father – Roy Houston Templeton, mother – Annie Lee Bridges Templeton, brother – LeRoy Templeton, and sister-in-law – Carol Templeton.

Margaret is survived by her daughter – Shannon Wall (Bill McCarthy) of Pittsboro, NC, son – Mark Wall (Angie) of Germanton, NC, and daughter – Amanda Wall Smith of Harrisburg, NC; as well as her beloved grandchildren, Isabel, Coy and Lucia Wall of Germanton, NC, and Morgan and Carter Smith of Harrisburg, NC. Along with her nephew, Avery Williams (Krista) and niece, Marilyn Rash (Randy) both of Harmony, NC. Margaret always said her prayers, loved her family and her church – Forsyth Friends Meeting.

She collected antiques, adored flowers, made sure every stray animal and person was fed, and was an avid gardener. She had a green thumb like no other and canned the best beets and chow chow in town. She will be deeply missed by those whose many lives she touched.

The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of the Derrick L Davis Regional Cancer Center. Especially, Dr Nick Chrysson and Dr Charles Pippitt for 18 years of excellent medical care and concern, and Mom’s favorite nurse, Ms. Bridgette. As well as, Dr Philip Lamptey, Dr Anna Overby and the staff of the 8th floor Oncology Department at Forsyth Medical Center and all the nurses and CNA’s at Trellis Supportive Care of Winston-Salem.

A special thank you to the manager and staff at the Dollar General of Germanton, NC for the kindness and care they showed our mother over the years. Currently, the family is honoring her wishes not to have a formal service. As a family they will honor her memory privately in the near future.
