Margaret B. Tweed (Mayhew) known as Peggy, 84, of Clackamas, died peacefully in her sleep on February 14, 2019. Peggy was born September 26, 1934, in Jacksonville, FL to William A. Mayhew, LtCol, USAF (Ret. ) and Margaret B. Mayhew (Cornell).

Peggy graduated from Balboa High School in the Panama Canal Zone in 1952 and attended the University of Vermont, Burlington from 1952 to 1954, she continued her studies in California, Alabama, and Hunter College, NY, studying General Psychology. In 1962 she relocated to New York City and worked at the United Nations Headquarters in the secretarial pool. In 1971, after moving to Clackamas OR, she worked as a title researcher before retiring.

For over 60 years, Peggy had a very close relationship with the Phillips family. They brought her much joy, warmth and great memories as she became an extension of their family. Peggy enjoyed a quiet life that included singing with her church, Kairos-Milwaukie United Church of Christ, choir, with which she competed in many local and statewide competitions as an alto.

She was also an avid and eclectic reader who enjoyed classical music, attending concerts and plays, and preparing and eating great Indian food. However, she could be a rebel who liked to live life on the edge on her Hoveround, at least until the second time she tried 4-wheeling and had her wild rides curtailed. Peggy never met a cat she didn’t like…she was definitely a cat fanatic.

Most everything she owned had cat art on it, including her favorite Halloween skeleton cat, which was displayed all year. Flowers were another favorite of hers and she always enjoyed a stroll through Portland’s International Rose Test Garden. Peggy was a single mother who loved her children and grandchildren wanting nothing more than for them to have a good life.

She was also an independent woman with an easy-going personality and a sharp mind that knew all the answers to Jeopardy. Peggy was predeceased by her brother William A Mayhew, LtCol, USAF (Ret. ).

She is survived by her son Bruce M. Tweed, LCDR, USCG (Ret. ) and his wife Cheryl Cor-Vey of Makaha, HI. Peggy also leaves behind her daughter, Tinara Carter and her grandchildren, Vashti, Jamila, and Ayanna.

A private celebration of her life will be held on February 26, 2019.
