Margaret “Jean” Gray, 93 of Petoskey, died April 30, 2019 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital. Jean was born on March 1, 1926, the daughter of George and Emma (McGarey) Baker. She attended St. Francis Catholic School in Petoskey.

On January 9, 1943, she married the love of her life, Lyle “Bud” Gray, Sr. Jean and Bud raised 11 children in Petoskey. They taught them the true meaning of hard work and loyalty. Jean attended St. Francis Catholic Church her entire life and was a member of the Altar Society.

In her spare time she enjoyed playing BINGO and working on puzzles. She loved to crochet and would make hats for newborn babies at the hospital, and gifts for family and friends. She was a talented baker and will always be remembered for her famous chocolate chip cookies and apple pies.

More than anything, Jean loved her family and spending time with her children and their ever-growing families was the greatest joy of her life. Jean is survived by her children, Virginia (Gene) Beer of Ellsworth, Lyle “Bud” Jr. (Kimberly) Gray of Petoskey, Kathleen (the late Dave) Lamb of Boyne City, Cynthia (Daniel) Ingalls of Rapid City, Michael (Mary) Gray of Boyne Falls, Mary Churchman of Petoskey, “Annie” Gloria (Mike) Turcott of Petoskey, and James (Julie) Gray of Petoskey; and approximately 140 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Bud Gray, Sr.; children, Karen Kline, John Gray and Doug Gray; grandsons, Steven Kline, Brian Beer, and Scott Kline; two brothers, Walter Meyers and Paul Baker; and three sisters, Inez Bowen, Maddie Henderson and Cecelia Hibbler.

There will be a visitation at Stone Funeral Home on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 3, 2019 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Petoskey at 10:30 a.m. with a one hour visitation prior to the service. Father Dennis Stilwell will officiate. Jean will be laid to rest next to her husband Bud, immediately following the Mass, at Greenwood Cemetery.
