Margaret “Margy” McDonald March 11, 1928 – May 16, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Longtime community member passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 16, 2019. At 92 years young, she leaves us all with quiet encouragement to enjoy life with more laughter, less worry, while delivering kindness to all. She was the third child born to Gladys and David Burr on March 11, 1928, in Kirkland, WA.

She graduated from Lake Washington High School and Whitman College (’50) where she met and married the love of her life, husband Jack. They had 62 wonderful years of marriage and Margy served her family of three children and their families with generous and unending love! She supported her family and community through many organizations: Green Park PTA, St. Paul’s Sunday school pianist, Team Mom for too many to count sport’s teams, Junior Club, Walla Walla Country Club women’s association, P.E.O., Chapter BI, St. Paul’s Alter Guild and Wedding Coordinator and of course Lenten Soup and Pie Luncheons.

She served “Meals on Wheels” for 50 years, and was a charter member of the YWCA Leadership Circle. Her greatest joy was working alongside of others in any kitchen and sharing food and fellowship around a large table. The Oregon Coast held a special place in her heart where her family gathered yearly, but nothing was valued by her as much as holiday celebrations in her home!

Baking pies and cookies for many was a common weekly gift from her heart. She leaves her three children and their families: Mary Lynn Thompson (Mark) of Walla Walla; J.D. McDonald (Leslie) of Mill Creek; and Nancy McLean (Roy) of Kennewick. She has eight grandchildren: Matt (Deena), Andy (Mikal), David (Alicia) Megan, Trevor, Camden (Katie) Sarah (Shane), Corey and five great-grandchildren, sister Martha Millar, and nine nieces and nephews, as well as a multitude of friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, brother David Burr Jr. and sister, Mary Bloom. A private family interment will be held at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens and a Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on June 10, 2019, at 11:00 AM, with a reception following. Memorial Contributions in memory of Margy may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Blue Mountain Community Foundation – Jack McDonald Memorial Scholarship, YWCA, or a charity of your choice through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W.
