Obituary for Margaret “Peggy” Parsons Douglas Margaret (Peggy) Parsons Douglas passed away on August 30, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Mrs. Douglas was born on June 1, 1925 to John Alden Parsons and Dorothy Stuart Parsons in New York, NY. She moved to Memphis as a teenager, attended Central High School, and graduated from Rhodes College in 1947.

Affectionately known as “Mumma” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Mrs. Douglas was devoted to her family and friends. She loved playing bridge and was never without a book in her hand. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Les Passes, and Circle of Flowers Garden Club.

Mrs. Douglas was preceded in death by her parents, her brother John A. Parsons, Jr., her stepmother Frances Parsons, brother Frank Parsons, and sister-in-law Sandol Douglas Patteson. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, William (Bill) Cuningham Douglas; her three children, Margaret (Charlie) Wheeler, Joan (Bill) Chapin, and Billy (Suzanne) Douglas; brother- and sister-in-law, John and Edna Earl Douglas; brother-in-law Jimmie Patteson; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. A private family graveside service will take place at Arlington Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at St. Edward Chapel at Trezevant Manor on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., followed by visitation with the family in the Music Room until 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Church Health, 1350 Concourse Ave. , Suite 142, Memphis, TN 38104, or Second Presbyterian Church.
