A viewing will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Lifesong Funeral Home in Quincy, Florida, and funeral services will be held at 11 am EST on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Fellowship Assembly of God Church, 5689 Bristol Highway,, Quincy, FL. Interment will follow at the family cemetery adjacent to the church.
Born on January 21, 1921, in Greensboro, Florida, Marguerite lived all of her life in Gadsden County. She leaves many family members and friends to cherish her memory. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Miller Cooper and Husband Jim Cooper of Lake Yvette, Martha Miller Carr, Tallahassee; one son, Danny Miller and Wife Frankie K. Miller of Lake Talquin; two granddaughters, Sheila McPhaul of Tallahassee and Danna Miller of Orlando; two grandsons, Ryan Glover and Wife Betsy Glover of Orlando and Tony Miller and Wife Jessica Miller of Quincy; eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two brothers, Ollie B. Edwards of Tallahassee, and Charles W. Edwards of Greensboro, several nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband Clarence W. “Tony” Miller; her parents Robert Edwards and Martha Viola Edwards; and siblings Lucille Edwards Lovett and R. D. Edwards. Marguerite, the oldest of five siblings, had to grow up before her time due to her mother’s early death, making it necessary to step up at an early age to help her father raise a girl and three boys who were between the ages of 2 and 10. Marguerite began cooking and learning how to take care of a household at the early age of 12 and throughout her 80 plus years of home responsibilities, her culinary and food preparation skills became the best of the best.
She was a southern cook and happily shared the “fruits” of her kitchen, always welcoming family and friends into her home for a mouthwatering, down-home country-style meal. Some of her specialties were her 10-layer chocolate cake (an all-time favorite of her husband and her grandchildren), mile-high cream cheese pecan cake (a recipe she coined and customized), chicken and rice, chicken and dumplings and cornbread dressing. While spending time out of the kitchen, Marguerite enjoyed fishing and gardening, and she loved to be on the go, always telling family, “If you don’t want me to go with you, don’t ask me”.
She spent many summers in the mountains of North Carolina with her two daughters and grandchildren enjoying shopping and relaxing in her back porch rocking chair, listening to the rustling waters of the back yard creek in Maggie Valley. But while she was at home here in Gadsden County, she loved nothing more than spending time with her son Danny and daughter-in-law Frankie fishing at their home on Lake Talquin. In her approach to life, Marguerite will be remembered for her big, generous and loving heart, but mostly for her deep and abiding love for Jesus, her children and her grandchildren.
Marguerite was a teacher of unconditional love and she lived to love and laugh. It was uplifting to be with and near her as she always had compelling stories to tell about growing up and life in general. She indeed was the thread that held the family together.
Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family always. Marguerite was a woman of strong Christian faith and God was always first in her life. She was a Charter Member of Fellowship Assembly of God Church in Gadsden County, Florida, and with her passing, her church membership was transferred to Heaven’s roster as she entered into the joys of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
