Obituary for Maria H. Riedel Maria “Mieze” Helen (Roesler) Riedel passed away on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 6:50 p.m. at the age of 92. She was born April 1, 1924, to Richard and Helene (Beyer) Roesler in Plauen, Germany. Mieze loved to paint and draw from childhood on.

She went to architectural school where she met her husband, W. Christian Riedel. After immigrating to the United States in 1949, she pursued a career in watercolor painting. She taught at the Alliance Art Center for eight years and her work is in collections worldwide.

She was a member of many art organizations including: Alliance Art Center, Canton Art League, Canton Art Museum, Salem Art League, Steubenville Art Association, Coshocton Art Guild, Mahoning Valley H.S., Butler Art Institute in Youngstown and the Ohio Arts and Crafts Guild. Mieze was also a signature member of the Ohio Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America and the Georgia Watercolor Society. Her work was shown in many art galleries, including New York City and she won numerous awards.

Mieze was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, W. Christian Riedel, Architect, who died in 2000; her parents; and a sister, Kaete Lindenlaub, all of Germany. She is survived by a son, Dr. Thomas Riedel of Austria; daughter, Dr. Maria C. Riedel and her husband, Barry Fredholm of Akron; grandsons, Dr. Arthur Riedel, Richard Riedel and Alex Fredholm; three great-grandsons; two nieces; three grandnephews and their children; and many dear friends, including Alice Swartz. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 1 p.m.in the chapel at Chapel Hill Retirement Community, 12200 Strausser St NW, Canal Fulton, OH 44614.

Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Walton Schrader Funeral home 1131 W. State St., Alliance, OH 44601. Friends may register online at www.
