Mariam M. Bircher 87 of Hillsboro passed away April 28, 2019 at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 19, 1931 in Collinsville IL to Joseph and Agnes (Etchills) McCain. She married Glenn Bircher on Jan 28, 1950 in St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Highland.

Together, in 1960s they founded WINU-AM radio station in Highland, which they operated until their retirement in1991; she was a Cub and Boy Scout leader, delivered meals on wheels and was a member of the St. Joseph’s hospital auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. Surviving is a son Joh J (Linda) Bircher of Greenville daughter Nancy (Terry) Manning of Hillsboro, Grandchildren Jennifer (Chad) Bentley and Katie (Ben) Halliwill of Cedar Rapids Iowa, Joshua Manning Hanna City IL, Rachel (Mike) Vera Apollo Beach FL, great grandchildren Bryson, Weston and Madison Bentley, Lydia and Sylvia Halliwill, Koen, Nolan Vera and Jazmyn Anderson and one Great-Great grandson Hudson Anderson, one sister Carol (Paul) Meier of Chesterfield MO.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sisters Joann Schauerte and Jean McCain. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
