Obituary for Marie S Eltume (Jean Baptiste) Marie Suzie Eltume (born Marie Suzie Jean-Baptiste) was born at Gaspard, Saint-Louis-du Nord on October 24, 1963. Her father was Dorvilus Jean-Baptiste and her mother was Lamercie Durosier. She graduated from elementary school; Saint-Therese-de L’Enfant Jesus.
From an early age, Suzie was really determined to make a difference in the life of the people in her community. She was engaged in every social aspect of the community of Gaspard where she grew up. In the early 1980, as many other people at that time, she had decided to immigrate to the Bahamas in the pursuit of a better life.
Life was not easy for her over there, as a single mother of her first beloved daughter Lamercie; she struggled to make ends meet. In the middle of 1980, she had decided to move to the United States of America to follow the American’s dream. Suzie was really passionate and motivated; working full time and having a family to take care was not going to stop her from pursuing her dream of becoming a registered nurse.
She attended Bunker Hill Community College for two years and went to university of Massachusetts where she was expected to graduate in 2019. She worked for several years in community nursing. Her patients loved her as she cared for them with total devotion and compassion.
Suzie enjoyed life to fullest through simple pleasure like her family, her friends and her church. She has an uncanny ability to reach out to people in a deep and positive way. Unfortunately, her dream had been cut short by the diagnosis of her breast cancer in 2017.
On December 17, 2018, she lost her battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Idevert Eltume, her daughter Lamercie and her husband Dickenson, Marieulle; her son Miguely and his wife Kristen, Jeremy, Idenson, her grandkids Ernest Miguely, Caleb, Sapphire Raquel and Naomi Gabrielle and her brothers Johnny and Daniel; her beloved sister Rosemarie, her nephew Ralph and her niece Christelle Suzie.
