Obituary for Marietta Irene Ervin MARIETTA (COWELL) ERVIN, beloved mother, grandma and “GG”, was called home by the Lord on June 27, 2018 at age 91. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Bailey. Resembling her late husband’s upbringing, Marietta was raised alongside seven siblings in North Central Arkansas.

She played girls high school basketball & later worked at the old phone company as a Switchboard Operator. At becoming a wife & later a mother, she and her young family lived in several different cities around the U.S. finally settling in El Paso in 1960. Marietta was a faithful member of Western Hills Methodist Church for over 57 years, where she also spent several years as a Day School teacher.

Thunderbird Bowling Lanes was 1 of a only a few choices for family entertainment in West El Paso IN EARLY ‘60s, so although both she and her husband enjoyed the sport, Marietta became the family’s Champion Bowler, and continued team & tournament play until she was 85! She loved watching sports too, as she was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, and the Arkansas Razorbacks, and kept up with most all college & professional televised matchups. Marietta also enjoyed watching the lantanas and geranium flowers bloom in her garden.

She loved all the pets that came in and out of her life, and was particularly devoted to the hummingbirds–watching them dive & dodge while sitting on her back porch. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her 3 sisters, 4 brothers, both parents and several close friends. Left to cherish her memory are her surviving family members: 3 children–Roger (Mary Kathryn), Deborah, Marsha (Tom); 6 grandchildren–John (Jessica), Travis, Michael (Zorinne), Bonnie, Raymond, and Lindse; and two great-grandsons–Isaiah and Winston.
