Obituary for Marilyn Ann (McPhee) Tierney Tierney, Marilyn Ann (McPhee) Marilyn Tierney passed away at the age of 93 on September 9th, 2018. Marilyn McPhee was born on October 10th, 1924 in Franklin, Minnesota to Eva and Jay McPhee. She grew up on the family farm with her sister Marvel.

She later moved to Minneapolis, where she was employed at the Star Tribune. She soon met the love of her life, Bill Tierney. Married for 67 years, they raised their family in Southwest Minneapolis.

Marilyn was a talented seamstress, knitter and quilt maker. Her family was the of great joy in her life. She loved spending summers with her children and grandchildren at the cabin on Sugar Lake, a place where deep-rooted family bonds were forged over fierce games of Rummikub.

She was an avid reader and took great interest in politics. She was very proud of her service as a volunteer at Fairview Southdale Hospital for many years. Along with being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Marilyn was a wonderful role model and was known by all as a kind, humble and generous friend.

Marilyn will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Preceded in death by her husband, William; parents, Jay and Eva McPhee; sister, Marvel McPhee. She is survived by sons Tom (Paula), Mark, Jim (Maura), Bill (DeeDee), and daughters Molly, Katy (Glen); Grandchildren Melissa (Brian), Scott (Trish), Sara, Ryan, Dustin, O’Neill, Maeve, John (Kathryn), Patrick, Michael (Shannon), Colin (Nora), Ben, Molly, Joe and Claire; and Great Grandchildren Paige, Blake, Cole, Jack, Anna, Logan, Mikayla, Maddie, and Rory plus many other extended family members.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 2914 West 44th Street, Minneapolis, MN. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorials preferred to Simpson Housing Services.
