Obituary for Marilyn Joan Farr Marilyn Joan Hunter Farr, a long time resident of Ft. Thomas, passed by natural causes into our Heavenly Father’s care, at her son’s residence in Safford, with her son and daughter-in-law at her side. Marilyn was 84.
Marilyn was born on July 3, 1934 in Cortez, Colorado, to Arthur Eli and Wilma Olga Ellermeyer Hunter. She was married to Karl Milton Farr for 61 years, and is survived by: her four children, Milton Wayne Farr (Laurie), of Safford, Elvin Lorin Farr (Janet), of Gilbert, and Arthur Mark Farr (Tanya), of Tucson, Kristina Lea Farr Overson (David), of Gilbert; and sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-four great-grandchildren. She attended Arizona State University where she met and married Milton.
Milton got a teaching job in Ft. Thomas, where they moved and raised their children. Marilyn was the quintessential homemaker.
She loved cooking, baking, sewing, and caring for her family and friends. Marilyn made hundreds of wedding (and other) cakes for people all over the Gila Valley and Arizona. The heavens now have the best cake maker that ever lived.
For a number of years, she taught cake decorating and southwest cuisine and gourmet cooking at Eastern Arizona College. Throughout her life Marilyn was also very involved in Family History and loved all of her family whether they came before or after her time. She was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, served anyway she could and supported Milton as he served as the Bishop of Ft.
Thomas Ward for 11 years. She and Milton went on 3 separate missions for the Church: to Brooklyn, New York (proselyting), to Nauvoo, Illinois (reconstruction and family history), to Manhattan, New York (oversaw construction of the Manhattan Temple). They built a summer cabin in Nutrioso, AZ with the family’s help.
She loved her family and did all she could to bless their lives. She left a wonderful legacy of faithfulness to her posterity. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Marilyn Joan Farr please visit our Sympathy Store.
