Marion Elizabeth Wiele, 94, of Burlington, died at 7:43 pm Sunday, December 2, 2018, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born June 8, 1924, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Frank O. and Freda Kurtz Hunger. On December 27, 1951, she married Richard H. Wiele in Burlington.

He later passed on May 9, 2008. Marion worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell for 23 years, and then for Hope Haven for 20 years. For years, while at NW Bell, she worked split shifts, driving from Danville to Burlington and back twice a day in order to be with her kids when they got home from school.

In the 1980’s, she owned and operated the Fullife Nutrition store in Fareway Center. She also ran a site for Southeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging for a number of years. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1942.

She then attended Iowa Wesleyan College and Iowa State Teachers College. She was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers. An excellent seamstress and cook, Marion was creative through artwork and loved watching Wheel of Fortune.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynne Klaus of West Des Moines and Diane Morrison of Mediapolis; one son, David Wiele of Burlington; two grandsons, Jake Klaus and Daniel Morrison; one granddaughter, Savanna Billups Wolf; two great grandsons, Chase and Liam; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 5 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. Wiele will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday December 5 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Randy Gearhart officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the American Stroke Association.
