Marjorie’s Obituary SARATOGA – Marjorie S. Dawes, 95, of Saratoga, New York, formerly of Queensbury and Lake George, New York passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Wesley HealthCare Center in Saratoga, New York. Born April 3, 1923, in Broadalbin, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Michael and Nellie (Sivic) Stecyk. Following her education, she took employment at G. J. Worfman Accounting Firm and upon moving to the Lake George area, worked for the First National Bank of Lake George.
Marjorie enjoyed the arts, devoting many hours in volunteer work. Those who knew her will remember her for her long and dedicated hard work in support of the arts and area charities, as well as her work at Glens Falls Hospital. She also felt the need to help those who were less fortunate, focusing on being kind to ones with a lack of self esteem and those not extended kindness.
Her heart went out to the poor and the sick, giving to them in so many ways through her charitable work. She gave endless hours of her time in support of the arts by volunteering at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the opera, theatre and museums. She spent most of her life attending garden club meetings, gardening and taking trips to visit nurseries with her husband and friends.
Marjorie had a great love for traveling, which she did extensively. She was a patron of Elder Hotel and participated in many of their programs. She loved sports.
She is predeceased by her husband, John who passed away in 2011 and two of her three sisters, Ann Clapper and Helen Szymanski of Florida and a brother Frank Stecyk. Left to cherish her memory are her sister Mary S. Wharton of Clifton Park, New York, nieces Bernadine Dawes of Vermont, Claudia (Andreas) Christodoulou, Carrie (Jerry) Lipfeld and Jenifer Wharton (Scott Wojtowecz) of New York, nephews Dale (Charlene) Clapper of Florida and Ronald (MaryAnne) Szymanski of Florida, Ronald K. Wharton Jr. of New York and several grand nieces and nephews of both Florida and New York. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the Baker Funeral Home in Queensbury, New York, followed by burial next to her beloved husband at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville, New York.
