Obituary for Mark Victor Holmquist Holmquist, Mark Victor 66, passed to his heavenly home on May 3 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park following his valiant 14-month battle with cancer. He was born in Winnebago, MN, on April 24, 1952, to Glen and Betty Holmquist and grew up in West St. Paul. In 1975 he graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College and in 1980 married Jill Hershleder.
Their daughter Kathryn was born in 1985. Mark worked as an independent contractor for more than 40 years, the last 20 in partnership with his good friend and football teammate Jim Gehrke. A lover of nature and the Gunflint Trail, literature and films, golf and hockey, Mark enjoyed spending time with his family of origin and the family he created.
He devoted much of his time in his final years to taking care of his aging parents. He was a beloved uncle to 15 nieces and nephews, and everyone who knew him enjoyed his free spirit, patience, and joy for life. His family was in his thoughts throughout his final days, and at his passing he was surrounded by his daughter Kathryn, his grandson Henry, his best friend Jill, his brother Mike, his niece Katelyn, and nephews Chris and Scott.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by the beloved family he created: his daughter Kathryn, his grandson Henry, and his best friend Jill. A memorial service will be held at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Home at 2901 Johnson St NE, Minneapolis, MN, on Saturday, May 12. Visitation will be at noon followed by a service at 1 officiated by Gary Langness.
