OBITUARY Marlis LaBonnie Thoen June 18, 1937 – October 29, 2018 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our beloved Marlis LaBonnie Thoen, but we rejoice that she is at peace and with the Lord. Born June 18, 1937 in Lake Mills, Iowa to George J. and Mabel Irene Johnson (Gilbertson), she graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1955. She married Dr. Dennis D. Thoen of Kensett, Iowa on August 29, 1959.

She lived her entire married life in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bonnie devoted her life to raising her four children, promoting Redeemer Lutheran School and Salt Lake Lutheran High School, and caring for the homeless and elderly. She had a strong connection to nature, loved her dogs, antiquing, woodworking, crochet, and traveling with her family in the RV.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, and both brothers, Mylan and Lowell Johnson. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Dennis D. Thoen of Salt Lake City, Utah, children LaRynda (Neil Salyapongse) of Madison, Wisconsin, Tory (LeAnn) of Salt Lake City, Erica (Georgette Leventis) of Salt Lake City, and Kirsten Thoen of New York City. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Lois Johnson of Lake Mills, Iowa, her six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

We will carry her kind and gentle nature in our hearts and treasure her memory forever. The family thanks the staff of Silverado Aspen Park Memory Care and Hospice for their many years of excellent care. We also thank family friends Sheila Dewey, the Keele family, the Rev.

David Fischer, and the Rev. Kevin Belter of Redeemer Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Associates’ Christmas Fund of Silverado Aspen Park Memory Care, or the Dementia Society of America.

There will be a visitation Saturday evening, November 10 from 6-8pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S Highland Dr, Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral services will be held in the same location on Sunday, November 11 at 11am, with a light lunch to follow.
