Martha Jean Kelly December 17, 1938 – January 20, 2019 Share this obituary View/Sign Guest Book Mrs. Martha J. Kelly (“Marty”), of Northridge, California, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at the age of 80. Marty was born to parents Estelle and Emil Schaum on December 17, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri. She grew up with two sisters, Mary Schmidt and Dorothea Gregowski.

In 1958, she married the love of her life, John J. Kelly, with whom she just celebrated 60 years of marriage. She and John raised five children – Kathleen Kelly, Kristin Blough, Mary Watson, Carolyn Canfield and Jack Kelly. Her parents and her son, Michael Gilbride Kelly, precede her in death.

Marty is also survived by 10 very loving grandchildren and 4 of the most adorable great grandchildren. Throughout her life, Marty was passionately devoted to both family and community. She treasured, engaged and supported the wide variety of talents and personalities exhibited by her children and grandchildren.

She cherished the places and adventures she went with John, her partner in life. As a gift to her community, Marty spent several years as a volunteer for MEND, and actively participated in many volunteer groups at Our Lady of Lourdes (OLL Women’s Council, Harmonia Choir, Liturgy Committee). She was also a great friend.

Just ask any one of her many lifelong friends how much they valued her support. Marty embraced life’s adventures and directly confronted life’s challenges on her terms. She left us inspired by how she fought Acute Myeloid Leukemia these last two years with courage, grace and dignity.

To celebrate her life and spirit, a Celebration of Life Mass to will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 1:00pm at: Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 18400 Kinzie St, Northridge, CA 91325 In lieu of flowers, please honor Marty’s life with a donation to either: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of San Diego: events.
