MARTHA’s Obituary Martha Smith, 94, of Henderson, Kentucky, formerly of Carbon Hill, Alabama, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, May 19, 2019, at her daughter’s home in Henderson, Kentucky, under the care of her daughter and caretaker, Frances Liggett, and St. Anthony’s Hospice. Martha was a busy homemaker raising nine children. She loved to sing, read, tell stories to her grandchildren, and sew.

At home, she was an avid TV watcher of Wheel of Fortune. She was the best biscuit maker from Alabama to Kentucky. Martha was described by her family as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was very much devoted to them.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley; five children, Billy George Smith, Charlie Eugene Smith, Rebecca Ann Jordan, Walter Lee Smith, and Wanda White; two grandsons, Bobby Gene Swindle and Curtis Lee Posey. Survivors include three daughters, Fannie Liggett and her husband, Joe, of Henderson, Kentucky, Janie Craven and her husband, Jackie, of Nauvoo, Alabama, and Loretta Miller of Russellville, Alabama; one son, James Oscar Smith of Jackson, South Carolina; son-in-law, David White of Jackson, South Carolina; granddaughter-in-law, Peggy Posey of Corydon, Kentucky; nineteen grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home.

The Reverend Mark Carter will officiate. Burial will be in Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice, 2410 South Green Street, Henderson, Kentucky 42420.
