Marty was a wild child not very interested in school. She did enjoy spending time with her grandmother who often would let her skip school and spend the day with her.

Marty grew up before her time, preferring to ride her motorcycle and be very social with a soon to be husband. She was married to Leland Barrett for a very short time, after 3 weeks the Grandmother had the marriage annulled. Marty then settled back into school but met her future husband as school still held no interest she was married, dropped out of school and rode off on her favorite Harley.

Marty moved to Apple Valley, had 3 children and remained there for 4 years, then divorced. She then moved to Marilyn and remained there for 3 years while attending some graphic art classes she obtained a graphic arts degree working then for Norton Air Force Here in California for a short time. After returning to California Marty then was reintroduced to her former neighbor and class mate, falling in love and future husband Harry Long.

Marty remained married for 8 years, during which time she joined the reserves for the sheriff’s department. And began working at the county jail. Marty worked full time and began the process of trying to jump a wall for entrance into the sheriff’s departments.

Marty made multiple attempts taking a few years but eventually leaping that wall and joining the sheriff’s department. This was the happiest time in Marty’s life thus far. After completing the training Marty then worked as a deputy for years in the county jail.

Marty eventually began working a cruiser after gaining experience and applying for the entrance into san Bernardino county sheriff’s department swat team. Marty was married to her new husband stan smith whom she referred to as the love of her life (stan the man). Marty gained entrance into swat and became the first female FBI trained SWAT member.

She worked for the swat for many years before leaving to work in homicide. During her stay in homicide Marty was awarded police woman of the year, receiving many awards and even appearing on the Merv Griffin show and children are people too shows. Marty worked homicide for years until she retired.

After retirement Marty’s oldest child had some legal issues requiring incarceration, thus leaving his 6 children with CPS. This was not a situation Marty considered acceptable, she then took all her son’s children into her home, legally adopting and beginning her second time around as a mother/grandmother. Marty returned to the sheriff’s department where she worked in transportation for many years.

After her grandchildren were grown Marty retired and began her love affair with anything old west. Marty travelled to tombstone multiple times, Marty continued her love affair until her ultimately passing at age 74.
