Marvin Kroes, 60, of Caldwell, ID, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 7th, 2018, having passed away at his home surrounded by family. Marvin was born on February 26, 1958 in Bellflower, California to Ray and Tracy Kroes. After relocating to Oregon, he graduated from Newberg HS in 1976.
On August 14, 1981, he married Jeanette jansen van Beek. Together they raised two sons, Nicholas and Andrew. Marvin grew up playing many sports and passed his love of athletics on to his children.
He coached many teams and then later in life, golfing and bowling were his pastimes of choice with his boys. His life was marked by his willingness to help others and work hard, ending his career after 17 years at the Amalgamated Sugar Factory in Nampa. He loved his coworkers and he loved his work.
He summoned this strong work ethic to fight his ALS diagnosis with optimism to the very end. He was affable and always in good spirits and loved the simple things in life like a bowl of ice cream and a Pepsi. A committed member of Nampa First Church of the Nazarene for over 26 years, his faith played a central role in his life.
He and Jeanette also loved to travel. They took many cruises, explored the country as well as the Netherlands, staying in touch with their Dutch heritage. Marvin is survived by his wife, Jeanette; his two children, Nicholas (Megan) and Andrew (Brittany) and seven grandchildren (Ellie, Carter, Hazel, Ingrid, Finley, Dillon and Oscar); his mother, Tracy; his in-laws, Evert and Dora jansen van Beek; as well as brothers, Adrian, Gerrit (Judy), Richard, and sister, Christina (Dan) Kredit and numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Marvin was preceded in death by his father, Ray. Marvin’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors at West Valley Medical Center, physicians Daniel Allen, Nathan Holmes, Jackie Whitesell and team at the ALS clinic at St. Als, Altitude Physical Therapy, Encompass Hospice, and the Amalgamated Sugar Factory. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions can be directed to Nampa Christian Schools Scholarship Fund, 11920 W. Flamingo Ave.
