Mary deHaan Mary Alice Gimmeson Neeld deHaan was born in 1932, the youngest of six children to Bessie and Ernie Gimmeson. Growing up on a farm in Garland instilled in her a love for the outdoors and adventure. After graduating from Powell High School, she married Lawrence Neeld.

They had one daughter, Geri Bulkeley. After 23 years, they grew apart and were divorced, but remained friends. Mary then married Paul deHaan, whom she was with until his death in 1999.

Mary loved the mountains. She worked for a short time at Shoshone Lodge on the North Fork and in Jackson wanting to be close to nature. She enjoyed camping and tolerated fishing.

This love of nature can be seen in her paintings. Mary also loved to travel. When not at the bakery, she and Paul would put many miles on their Gold Wing, sometimes just taking a ride over the mountains and other times longer rides with friends.

They also traveled to Holland. After Paul’s death, she became less confident in her driving skills. Mary then concentrated her attention on maintaining a perfectly manicured yard with varieties of beautiful flowers.

She also enjoyed her walks around the neighborhood and Homesteader Park with friends, often putting in three to four miles per day. Mary was proceeded in death by her husbands; one sister and four brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Geri; brother Gene; stepsons Pete and Rudy and stepdaughter Henny; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her family is respecting her wishes of no funeral, no fuss. They will have a small family affair this summer in the mountains that she loved. In lieu of flowers or cards, the family would appreciate donations to the Union Presbyterian Church, 329 N. Bent St. in Powell.
