Obituary for Mary Ann Baker Mary Ann Baker, 93 of Zanesville, died at 2:20 AM, Sunday, December 2, 2018, at Beckett House at New Concord, following a lengthy illness. She was born Friday, February 13, 1925, in Zanesville, the daughter of Charles S. Hemmer and Cora E. (Whitlinger) Hemmer and married Jerome Frederick “Fred” Baker on Saturday, June 10, 1950. Mary Ann was a faithful and dedicated member of St. Nicholas Church.
She was a devout Catholic and her church and spiritual life were very important to her. She spent countless hours over 45 years volunteering in the St. Nicholas School Cafeteria and School Library. She loved to bake, providing many baked goods to friends and family, and was especially known for her cinnamon rolls.
Mary Ann was musically talented and enjoyed playing the piano, singing with the St Nicholas Church Choir and Greater Zanesville Singers, and also worked as a telephone operator for Ohio Bell before her marriage. Mary Ann was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joys were faith, family and home.
Mary Ann is survived by two daughters: Kathy (Doug) Edwards of West Chester & Mary Baker of Zanesville; six sons: John (Alice) Baker, Joe (Sandy) Baker both of Nashport, Jim (Robin) Baker, Mark Baker and Paul (Lori) Baker all of Zanesville, and Mike (Linda) Baker of Duncan Falls, 22 grandchildren and18 great grandchildren, several nieces; nephews, one sister: Theresa Hemmer of Zanesville and one sister-in-law: Patricia Hemmer of Cudahy Wisconsin. In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband Jerome Frederick “Fred” Baker; five brothers: Karl Hemmer, Robert Hemmer, James Hemmer, Paul Hemmer and Charles Hemmer and a sister: Rita Todd. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, December 9, 2018, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, with the Rosary being recited at 7:45 PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Monday, December 10, 2018, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 955 East Main Street, Zanesville, with Fr. Martin J. Ralko as Celebrant. Mary Ann will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Fred in Mt.
