Mary Ann “Momma Mase” Masi, 72 Poland………Mary Ann “Momma Mase” Masi, age 72 entered God’s care on Thursday, May 16, 2019. She was born on February 21, 1947 to the late Anne (Vansak) and George Swantek. Mary Ann graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1966.

Her first job was a dietary aide at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. She then worked part-time for two decades at Hair-A Cey, for twenty-five years employed by St. Joseph the Provider church for Father Leo Pleban and Father Mike Swierz. Her final job before retirement was a part-time cashier clerk at Campbell Pharmacy.

Mary Ann’s family and friends were the delight of her life! She especially enjoyed getting together for family gatherings such as St. Joseph Dinner, dancing, cookouts, playing horseshoes and corn hole, holidays, church festivals, casino trips, high tea events with the Delta Zeta alumnae chapter, Holiday Luncheon with the Youngstown Alumnae Panhellenic Association (YAPA), her animals, especially dogs and cats, and supporting and attending the Struthers Girls and Boys Basketball games/program for the past thirty-five years. She became known as “Momma Mase” by the Struthers Girls Basketball players.

Mary Ann was a devoted Roman and Byzantine Catholic! She was involved in her church and was a tireless volunteer throughout her life. She spent twenty years as a “holy roller” making potato and sauerkraut balls for homemade pirogis with “The Pirogi Ladies” at St. Joseph the Provider Church now known as Christ the Good Shepherd Church.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Gabriel; two children, Albert and Anna and her son-in-law Dan; her brothers, Joe (JoAnn) Swantek, Paul Swantek, Larry (Irene) Swantek, George (Martha Jean) Swantek and Andy (Theresa) Swantek; sister-in-law Rita (Masi) and Walt Vrabel and sister-in-law Patricia (Masi) and Bobby Struharik. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John (Tinka) Zavatchin and Michael (Carol) Swantek. She loved being “Aunt Mary Ann” to many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann beamed every time she saw someone she loved and gave the tightest and biggest hugs and kept everyone in her prayers! She was blessed to have many wonderful friends that were close as family, Father Mike Swierz, Dr. Alex J. Vrable, “The Pirogi Ladies” at St. Joseph the Provider Church, Barb and Frank Rossi, Cindy and Angelo Gaitanis, Flash and Marsha, Lori Swantek, her “second” daughter Julie Miller and her parents Donald and Estelle Miller, Anne and Bob Monus, Della, Paul, Emma and AJ Elia, and Sarah Ellis. Mary Ann appreciated the care of nurses and nurses aides at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Omni Manor Health Care Center and Home Instead Senior Care especially her Aide, Latres Mason.

Mary Ann was an incredibly generous, thoughtful and giving person! She would want to continue to take care of others as she done her entire life, so in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to, Angels for Animals, Animal Charities or to the Struthers Girls Basketball Boosters Club. Calling hours will be on Sunday, May 19, 2019 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Wasko Funeral home in Campbell.

The funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 10:00 am St. Joseph the Provider Church aka Christ the Good Shepherd Church located at 633 Porter Avenue in Campbell. A mercy meal will follow the mass at St. Joseph Church hall. She will be placed to rest at St. John’s Cemetery on Villa Marie Road in Lowellville.
