Mary Eileen Friedrich , Mrs. Mary Eileen (Dwyer) Friedrich, of Bethel Park, passed away at age 90 on June 21, 2018 in her Bethel Park home. Mary was born on September 1, 1927 to Owen and Helen (Butler) Dwyer and grew up in Aspinwall, Pennsylvania. She was the beloved wife of August (Augie) Friedrich for 67 years.

Mary graduated from Duquesne University in 1951 where she earned a bachelor’s of arts double degree in Sociology and Philosophy. Mary is survived by her 6 sons, 1 daughter and their spouses: Michael and Joyce, Daniel and Susan, Kevin and Tammy, James and Julie, Joanne and Walter Massey, John, and Paul and Linda, as well as her 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses: Helen and Charles Lodge, Carol and Paul Mueller, Kathleen and Patrick Connell, Owen and Mary Beth (Sweeney) Dwyer and Sara and Joseph Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Patricia Robbins and Barbara Vogel. Mary was always an independent thinker and activist committed to improving the world through peace, environmental stewardship, women’s rights, holistic medicine, and organic nutrition. Friends will be received on Monday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at David J. Henney Funeral Home, 6364 Library Rd (RT 88), South Park, PA.

Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday 10:00 a.m. in St Valentine’s Church, Bethel Park. One of Mary’s passions was as a volunteer at the Thomas Merton Center. Those who wish may donate in Mary’s name to Thomas Merton Center, 5129 Penn Ave Pgh PA 15224.
