Obituary for Mary Ellen Purvis Mary Ellen Purvis, 59, of Port Monmouth NJ, formerly of Old Bridge, passed away on December 4, 2018 at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ. She was born on August 15, 1959 to George and Margaret Mary (Dunn) Bush in New York, NY. She grew up in Old Bridge, NJ with her family before settling by the beach in Port Monmouth.

Mary Ellen worked in the Oncology Research Department for Community Medical Center in Toms River for over 20 years. She had a beautiful laugh and smile, while her favorite place to be was by the sea. Her life’s pleasures revolved around being a devoted wife and loving mother.

Mary Ellen’s kindness and humor defined her, as many can attest to. She was also a beloved aunt and co worker to her many colleagues, and most of all, loved being a grandmother to her beloved Jack. Mary Ellen will always be remembered for bringing happiness and joy wherever she went.

Mary Ellen is predeceased by her father George J. Bush. She is survived by her loving spouse of ten years Jim, her children, Rachel Shanni of Los Angeles, CA, Samantha Shanni of Highland Park, NJ, son, Roarke Shanni of Honolulu, Hawaii, mother Margaret Mary Bush of Old Bridge, step son James R. Purvis of Hoboken and his wife Meghan, step daughter Liana M. Purvis of Jersey City, four sisters, Catherine Marra and husband Ralph, Maureen Ziznewski and husband Jay, Patricia Bergin and husband Gerard, Jean Bush and her partner Vincent Ferraro, and her grandchild, Jack. Visitation will be held Friday, December 7, 2018, 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Old Bridge Funeral Home, 2350 Route 516, Old Bridge, NJ.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018, 11:00 am at the Old Bridge Funeral Home, Old Bridge, NJ, with Fr Jack Grimes of St Ambrose officiating. Cremation will be private. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society www.
