Mary’s Obituary Mary Francis Price, 102, of W. Cherry Lane, Carlsbad, NM, entered eternal life on Monday morning, February 11, 2019 at Good Life Senior Living in Carlsbad. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Chaplain Michael Adams of Encompass Home Health and Hospice will officiate. Her spirit is carried on by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and an extended family of relations and friends. Mary Francis (Stout) Price was born in a small town in Johnson County, Texas on July 28, 1916 to John D. and Mattie (Epperson) Stout.
She moved to Carlsbad in 1925 with her family. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Otis Price; one daughter, Euline Smith; two sons, Glenn Price and Winston Price; her parents; and her eight siblings. Mary was a member of the Otis Baptist Church.
She was active in the Baptist church all her life and continued to be a strong Christian influence on her family and friends throughout her life. She was a proud homemaker, and she loved making quilts, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and friends. Mary loved sharing her talents with her family.
Even her great-granddaughters were blessed to have learned how to make biscuits from her. We were all blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Mary during her 102 years, among them: you have to heat the oil in the skillet before making the cornbread; you tie a knot in your thread by rubbing your forefinger and thumb together; you don’t really need recipes; and never, never debate politics with her; but most importantly how to live a life of respecting others and living your life in faith. One of Mary’s life-long passions was making quilts; she made her last one when she was 100 years old.
She created well over 100 of these unique works-of-art. Her quilts are cherished treasures by each family member or friend who have been blessed to have received one. Mary’s family and friends would all say that she made beautiful quilts, she was an incredibly strong woman, she had a beautiful sense of humor, a strong will, an unwavering faith in God, and unconditional love for her family and friends.
Mary is survived by her daughter Mary Sue McDonald of Carlsbad and son Henry Price of Lubbock, TX; 10 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren (and counting), who all loved her very much. Danny Price, Glenn Price, Tommy Price, Steve Smith, Mike Price, Edward Kennedy, Kerry Watson, Jerret Turner, and Jim Goddard will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Mary’s family would like to recognize and thank the Encompass Hospice staff and caregivers for taking the time to become beloved friends and for taking such extraordinary care of her over these past years.
We would also like to send a special thank you to the Good Life staff and caregivers for their kindness and wonderful care she received during her stay there. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the name of Mary Price to the community philanthropic organization, the Assistance League of Carlsbad at www. assistanceleague.org/carlsbad or Assistance League of Carlsbad, PO Box 465, Carlsbad, NM 88221.
