Mary Grace’s Obituary Mechanicville, Saratoga County Mary Grace (Simmons) Izzo passed away into the hands of her Lord on May 1, 2019, with Salvatore, her husband who predeceased her in 2012, waiting with open arms. Mary Grace was a lifelong resident of Mechanicville, New York, born January 27, 1942, daughter of the late Mary (Cassidy) and Alfred Simmons. Besides her husband Sal of 58 years and parents, she was predeceased by two infant children Bridget Ann and Michael Jude.

She is survived by son A.J. (Mary) Izzo Grandchildren Aubrey, Timmy, And R.J. Nephew James (Vicky) Harris great nieces and nephews Paige, Brenna, Sammy, Brandon, Hunter, Luke, Connor and Alisha. In addition Mary Grace has many loving cousins and relatives in the Izzo-Simmons-Cassidy families. A special Mention to wonderful and dedicated care she received by care takers who grew to love her: Candie, Patrick, Destiny, Toni, and Vanessa.

Mary Grace graduated in 1959 from Mechanicville High School. Went to Albany Memorial School of Nursing, class of 1962. Studied at SUNY Empire State College for nursing administration (1975) and Russell Sage College for health care management.

She worked at Albany Memorial Hospital from 1962-1981; retiring as an Assistant Director of Nursing Services. Mary Grace was a co-owner of Sal’s Delicatessen and Catering Company from 1983-2007. She served her community as the chairperson of the Planning Board for the city of Mechanicville.

Mary Grace loved her family and friends. She always had a quick sense of humor and jokes. Her hobbies included crafts, crochet and knitting, and most definitely cooking.

She was a dedicated watcher of all the cooking shows and loved to try new recipes or pass old ones along. And she would save any recipes in newspapers or magazines. In addition she was a dedicated cat lover having several cats in her lifetime.

She was a wonderful Mommy to her Cat Abby who also passed on May 1, 2019 Her favorite quote: I am a survivor! And that she was. She will be sorely missed by many people.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend an hour of calling on Saturday, May 4, from 9:30 – 10:30 am at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 319 Park Avenue, Mechanicville. Funeral services will take place immediately following at 10:45 am. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Stillwater.
