Mary Louise Ikner Harper Boone, 94, of Kinston passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Greendale Forrest in Snow Hill. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church for 75 years and a Sunday School teacher for 20 years.

She enjoyed her job at Lynn’s Hallmark in Vernon Park Mall and interacting with her customers. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and knitting. Mary had a big heart and like to volunteer her spare time to people who were not able to get out due to illnesses.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Harper; parents, John Jackson Ikner and Lorene Willis Ikner; daughter, Linda Louise Harper and brother, John Jackson Ikner, Jr. Mary is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Harper Dixon and husband Carlton of Union Hall, VA; grandchild, Kevin Lee Carlyle of Kinston; great grandchildren, Mia D. Carlyle and Ian W. Carlyle; sister, Frances Lamm of Wilson; brother, James S. Ikner of Fayetteville and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2019 at Garner Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Brother James Tyndall officiating.

Burial will be held following the funeral service at Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www. stjude.org/donate.
