Mary Louise Scierka,91, of Oil City, passed away peacefully at her home on Dec. 22, 2018. Born on Nov.
4, 1927, in Oil City, PA. , she was the daughter of the late Lyle & Julia Stanish Morrison. Mary Louise attended Seneca St. School and later graduated from Oil City High School in 1945.
Upon graduation, she attended Feller’s Beauty School and also worked for Slesnick Brothers oil business in Oil City. During the war years, she worked for Westinghouse Corp in New Jersey. Mary Louise was married to Peter S. Scierka on Nov.
16, 1959 in Oil City, PA. And he preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1995.
Mrs. Scierka enjoyed cooking, the latest kitchen gadgets and sharing family recipes. She enjoyed reading and watching old time movies on television. Among her favorite books was “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austin, her favorite actor was Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca.
She loved murder mysteries, especially Columbo, Perry Mason and Murder She Wrote. The Andy Griffith Show always made her laugh. She also loved collecting snow globes and nutcrackers.
Big Band Music was her favorite kind of music. In her younger days, she sewed and loved to crochet. She very much loved her grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishments.
Mary Louise is survived by her children. Andree Plowman & her husband Greg of Oil City Peter M. Scierka & his wife Karen of Pittsburgh her grandchildren Hannah Plowman of Oil City Rachel Scierka of Pittsburgh a sister Gloria Baughman & her husband Dan of Seneca as well a brother-in-law Andy Scierka & his wife Nancy of MN and a sister-in-law Patricia Scierka of Pittsburgh and many nieces and nephews. As a young lady, Mary Louise was a member of St. Stephen’s Church, upon getting married she attended the Assumption B.V.M. Church where she was a long time member and most recently was a member of St. Joseph Church.
Friends will be received from 1:00 P.M.-2:00 P.M. Wednesday Dec 26 in the greeting space of the Assumption B.V.M. Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M. in th e Assumption B.V.M. Xchurch with Fr. John Miller, Presiding.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of Flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Reno Volunteer Fire Dept. 10 Fourth St. P.O. Box 149 Reno, PA.
