Mary moved to Vienna, VA with her parents and brother in 1938. She graduated from Saint James High School in Falls Church, VA, then went on to attend Saint Mary’s School of Nursing in Philadelphia. Mary served her country faithfully as a nurse in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.
