Mary Lynn McCanns, of Dover, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, in her sisters home in Smyrna. She was 67. Mary was born February 21, 1951, in Wilmington, DE to the late, Edward & Edith (Hedrick) Bachman.

Many of her fondest memories were the years that she spent growing up on Reed Street in Wilmington, before the family moved to Rambleton Acres in New Castle, before graduating from William Penn High School. In her earlier years, she worked at General Motors in Newport, Ronson Inc. in Newark and was a part-time bartender at the Atterbury VFW Post. To ensure that her children were well taken care of, Mary worked as a waitress at Arner’s Restaurant in New Castle and part-time at the Wrangle Hill Car Auction while having her own house cleaning business.

In more recent years, she had worked as the store manager of Service Energy Mobile Station in Dover for 5 years and as a cook at Tony’s Sausage House. She enjoyed baking, going with her sister and nieces to the beach and spending time with her cousins John “Pumpkin” Burton and his wife Jean at their home in Millsboro. Above all, Mary’s favorite thing to do was spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mary will be most remembered for having a generous heart and open arms to all that she came to know. She will also be known by her friends and family for making the best bean soup known to man. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John R. McNeal, Sr. and Marcus McCanns.

Mary is survived by her companion for the last 17 years Kevin Costello, her 3 Children, Melissa Ann McNeal, of Coatesville, PA; John R. McNeal, Jr., & wife, Susan, of Camden; and Brian McNeal, Sr., of Dover. Her siblings, Mark McDonald, of Smyrna; Sue Lane & husband, Gene, of Bear; Edward Bachman, of Smyrna; Laurie DiPersio & husband, Francis, of Wilmington; and Vicky Hoffman, of Smyrna. Grandchildren, Holly Bumbaugh, of Milford; Breeanna McNeal, of Dover; Logan McNeal, of Woodside; Brian McNeal, Jr., of Dover; and Jake McNeal, of Camden; her great-granddaughter, Leilanni Washington, of Milford and great-grandson, Nathaniel Stenger, Jr., of Milford.
