Obituary for Mary Margaret Hertensteiner Mary Margaret Quinn Hertensteiner, died Sunday, December 2, 2018 at the White Pine Senior Living in Cottage Grove. She was born September 1 to James and Kathryn (McGreavey) Quinn in Queens, New York. She attended high school in Liberty, New York, graduating in 1944.

She attended college in La Crosse, Wisconsin for a year in order to follow in her older brother’s footsteps. There, she met Carleton John Hertensteiner. They married in New York in 1951 before making their home in Red Wing where Carl worked as a teacher at the Minnesota Correctional Institute.

Together they raised four children. Mary enjoyed playing bridge and golf and was the first woman to get a hole-in-one at the Red Wing golf course. She enjoyed socializing with friends at the Red Wing County Club.

In 1970, Mary won the St. Paul Women’s bridge tournament. In her later years she enjoyed spending time with family, watching TV and playing Bingo at Treasure Island. She was a devoted Catholic and a member of The Church of St. Joseph.

Mary is survived by son, John Q. (Terri Schmidt) Hertensteiner, daughters Joan Kathryn Russell and Nancy Rita (Jim) Sunderlin, all of whom live in the Twin Cities; 6 grandchildren; Nikole (Dan) Stolfa, Ross Hertensteiner, Brian Russell, Kevin (Sarah) Russell, Laura Hecker, Shane Hecker; 9 great-grandchildren, Soren, Dane, Annabelle, Finn, Reid, Cole, Lukas, Lucy and Max. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl, her son, Peter Quinn Hertensteiner, her parents, siblings Jimmy and Rita. Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.
