OBITUARY Mary Sue Mayfield Passed away on September 7, 2018 Mary Sue Mayfield, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away on September 7, 2018, at the age of 92. She was born in Corsicana, TX, on November 12, 1925, and grew up in the oilfields of nearby Mildred, TX, exploring the outdoors with her younger brother, Fred. Sue was number nine of ten children in the Hardgrave family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Fredrick Hardgrave and Arva Zinnia McBroom Hardgrave, brothers Pete, Norris (Tucker), Harold, and Fred; sisters Hettie Belle Hardgrave, Nell Broughton, Hazel Hannah, Elsie Bonner, and Ima Gipson; and husband of 53 years, John Huyce Mayfield, also of Corsicana, TX. Sue and John moved to Austin, TX, for John to attend the University of Texas and ultimately made it their permanent home. She is survived by her daughters Nancy Toombs and Amy Shoemake, and son Fred Mayfield; sons-in-law, Kelley Toombs and Michael Shoemake, and daughter-in-law Sabrina Mayfield.

Sue leaves behind seven grandchildren, Amber (Toombs) Ramsey, Sarah (Toombs) Klein, Jonathan and Houston Mayfield, Fallon Mayfield Morrow, Ashley and Lauren Shoemake, ten great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Mary Hardgrave, and numerous nieces and nephews. Sue was known by many names: Suzy Q, Mom, Mamaw, Mamaw Mayfield, and Mama Mayfield (as she was lovingly known by those she taught over the years, in Sunday School). She was a bookkeeper, working for Snyder’s Smart Shop (later renamed Snyder-Chenards) on Congress Avenue, in the early 1950s, and ran an Income Tax preparation business with John for over 30 years.

Sunday dinners after church and holidays with her family were among her favorite times. She always had a song to sing and a wonderful sense of humor, which endeared her to everyone who had the good fortune to know her. God now has a very special angel in Heaven to watch over us all.

We will miss our precious Mamaw! The family is thankful for the love and support of their friends. They also send a special thank you to the Care Team at Sundance Premier Memory Care and the Accolade Hospice team for loving their “Miss Sue”.

Funeral Services and burial will be held at Cook-Walden Capital Park, Pflugerville, TX, on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at 2pm, followed by a gathering of family and friends at the home of Kelley and Nancy Toombs. In lieu of flowers, donations to Accolade Homecare and Hospice are suggested.
