Mary M. Traas, a lifelong resident of Sheboygan, passed away Wednesday evening, December 12, 2018 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls, surrounded by her family. She was 95 years old. Mary was born February 1, 1923 in Sheboygan, the daughter of Anton and Mary (nee Dragon) Kopina.

Mary had a strong work ethic and went on to work as a nurse’s aide at St. Nicholas Hospital and Sheboygan Memorial Hospital for 5 years, and then at Wigwam Mills for 30 years. After her retirement, she cleaned for the Gingham Girls for 25 years, retiring at age 92. It was a job she truly enjoyed, and took great pride in.

Mary was a member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Parish, and participated as a counselor at 1907 Club alongside her husband Leonard. A social and outgoing person Mary never left home without running into someone she knew.

She enjoyed shopping, chatting with her friends, being with her family and helping everybody she could. Mary is survived by her children: Gerald (JoAnn) Traas of FL and Rosemary (Steven) Crnecki of Green Bay. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Courtney (Jeff) Patt, Cassie (Dan) Fitzke, Zach (Amy) Crnecki, Todd Traas and Kelly Gullixon, 10 great-grandchildren who loved her dearly, other relatives, and many dear friends and neighbors.

She is preceded in death by her husband Leonard. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, December 18th at Ballhorn Chapels Funeral & Cremation Care Center, 1201 N. 8th St. in Sheboygan. Father Richard Cerpich will officiate.

The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00AM – 12:00 noon. She will be laid to rest beside Leonard at Greendale Cemetery in Sheboygan. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Mary’s name.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their kindness and loving care.
