OBITUARY MaryAnn Johnson March 28, 1941 – December 8, 2018 North Little Rock- MaryAnn (Staggs) Johnson, a long-time resident of the Central Arkansas area passed away December 8, 2018 at the age of 77 from complications related to cancer. MaryAnn was born in 1941 in Mabelvale, Arkansas to the late Chester and Martha (Wright) Staggs. She was a 1959 graduate of Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Arkansas.
MaryAnn was always a high-energy person who enjoyed 27 years with Twin City Bank where she held many positions, including Special Markets Officer and Trust Officer. Her career was cut short when diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 1992. MaryAnn loved gardening, traveling, antiquing and being with her family.
It was a tradition to have family get-togethers at her home. She had a wonderful smile, a wacky sense of humor, and a special way of encouraging those around her even during her illness. Above all, she loved and adored Jesus, her children and grandchildren.
She was always grateful for the care provided by her doctors: Dr. James Suen and nurses Jenny Badley and Mary Ann Horn; Dr. John Dornhoffer and nurse Brenda Speed; Dr. Dennis Wingfield and staff; Dr. Don Whitten and staff; Dr. Stanley Kellar; Dr. Terry Perkins and staff of Medicine Man Pharmacy in North Little Rock and many other health care providers and helpers (notably, Rebecca Hawley and Pam Hairston). MaryAnn is survived by three children: Jennifer Johnson Smith of Little Rock, Todd Johnson of Pine Bluff, Jill Johnson Eanes (John) of North Little Rock and two grandchildren: Forrest Smith of Colorado and Savannah Eanes of North Little Rock. She is also survived by her four siblings: Martha Staggs Houser; Bill Staggs, Tom Staggs (Nova) and Alfred Staggs as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to recognize the excellent and compassionate care she received during her last days and hours from the doctors, nurses, and staff on the ICU floor at Baptist Hospital Springhill in North Little Rock. We are especially thankful for Dr. Amy Staggs (niece) of Denver, Colorado for her love and guidance. MaryAnn never felt she lost the battle with cancer; instead, through God’s grace, she won the fight for nearly 27 years.
Early, Saturday morning, this beautiful, witty, strong and loving woman received her biggest miracle. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”. 2 Timothy 4:7 MaryAnn requested instead of flowers, please give to the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be Friday, December 14th from 6pm-8pm at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home in North Little Rock. A private Celebration Gathering will held on Saturday. To offer condolences and share a memory of MaryAnn with her family visit www.
