Obituary for Matthew James O’Connor Hamburg: Matthew James O’Connor, 78, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Matthew was born on July 31, 1940 in New York City, NY to Francis P. and Dorothy (née Hayes) O’ Connor. He was a resident of Mendham and Hamburg, NJ.
Matthew received his master’s degree in Chemistry and was President of both O’Connor Associates, a management consulting firm, and of Nucon, an environmental service company, retiring in 2004. In retirement, he was an avid golfer and a starter for many years at Crystal Springs Golf Club. He served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Matthew is survived by his wife of 51 years, Geraldine (nee Anello) O’Connor, his daughters, Kelly Barry and her husband Patrick of Illinois, and Dr. Stacy O’Connor of Wisconsin; his two cherished grandchildren, Ciara and Aidan; his sister, Dorothy Vasel and her husband Gregory of Clifton, NJ, and his niece Denise Vasel. Relatives and friends are invited to Matthew’s Mass of Christian Burial memorial service on Monday, October 1st at 11AM at St. Jude the Apostle R.C. Church, Hamburg, NJ. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, Vernon, NJ.
