Obituary for Mattie Grace Hamilton Print Mother Mattie G. Hamilton,age 85, was peacefully called home to rest on February 16th, 2019. She was born the oldest child to the late Willie B. andBeatrice (Harvey) Hamer on March 14, 1933 in Kilmichael, MS. A resident of Toledo most of her life, she graduated from Mary Manse college with herBachelor’s in education before obtaining her Master’s degree in education from the University of Toledo.

She was a lifelong educator that retired from Toledo Public Schools after teaching at Glenwood Elementary School mostof her career. Mattie Hamilton was a faithful member of New Home Missionary Baptist church where she had been financial secretary, a member of the choir, chairwoman of the Delores Boykin Scholarship fund, chairwoman of the Trustee Board, and started the junior usher board. She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority and she chartered the Zeta Xi Zeta chapter in Toledo, OH where she once served as president.

Always active in her community, Mother Hamilton was a member of Toledo Federation of Teachers and a member of the Study Hour Club. Surviving are her daughter Deanna Lett- Davis, step-daughters Penny Perkins, Leslie Wilson, step-son Charles Hamilton III, granddaughter Deanna (Ronald) Rice, great grandson Ronald L.Rice III, sister Jessie (Robert) Love of Jackson, MS and many nephews, cousins, and step-grandchildren.
