Maudellyn (Sweetwood) Tompoles, 99, entered into eternal life peacefully on May 27, 2018, in the comfort of her home. Though she didn’t quite reach her goal of living to 100, she lived a long and abundant life. She was born Dec.

26, 1918 to H.E. and Mary Ellen Sweetwood in Monroe, Wisconsin. She married the love of her life Gordon M. Tompoles and remained faithful to him throughout her many years beyond his passing in 1965. She was a devoted mother and matriarch to the family.

She was blessed to travel extensively upon her retirement from Abbott Laboratories in 1981. She and her sister, Maizie, explored Europe, Alaska and other far off places. While she lived a majority of her life in Illinois, she made an adventurous move to California in 1998.

Maudellyn enjoyed the company of her family above all else. Opening gifts on Christmas morning surrounded by her family brought her incredible joy even into her later years. Maudellyn is survived by her daughter Yolanda Larsen (Jim Larsen, deceased), her son Rory Tompoles (Cecilia Tompoles) and was preceded in death by her daughter, Marilynn Tompoles, grandson, Dennis Larsen, great grandson, Danny Larsen and step great grandson, David Araujo.

She was always grateful for her 5 grandchildren, 8 great and 6 great-great grandchildren along with 2 step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren. Her life was characterized by faithfulness, gratitude, hard work, wise stewardship, and generosity to her family and charities near to her heart. She will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to her favorite charity, Julian Oaks Youth Ministries, PO Box 835, Julian, CA 92036.
