Maxine Cleo Estess August 30, 1926 – May 01, 2019 Share this obituary Upload Photo| View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences Maxine Cleo Cole Estess went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2019, while in New Braunfels, Texas. Mrs. Estess was born to Leslie Keely Cole and Julia Jurney Cole on August 30, 1926, at Ivy Hospital in West Point, Mississippi. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1949 from Mississippi State University in Starkville and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.

She worked in Jackson, Mississippi, before moving to Houston in 1956 to be employed as an interior designer at the Downtown Foley’s Department Store. Maxine married Berthold Henry Estess, M.D. on June 13, 1959, at Central Presbyterian Church in Houston. She and Dr. Estess lived in Houston until moving to their Bear Creek home in New Braunfels in 1982.

While in Houston, Maxine was proud to be an active member of the Harris County Heritage Society for over 25 years. In New Braunfels, she was a member of First Protestant Church, Gay Forties Club and the Heritage Society of New Braunfels. Both her husband and her stepson, Dr. B. Henry Estess, Jr. of Dallas, preceded her in death.

She is survived by Patricia Joyce Estess of Houston, Sandra Estess of Dallas, Michael Eggeling Estess, M.D. and wife Nancy of Boise, Idaho, and Mary Estess Marcontell and husband Jerry C. Marcontell, M. D. of Rye, Texas, ten grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. The graveside celebration gathering will be held at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Comal Cemetery, 301 Peace Avenue, New Braunfels, Texas. In lieu of flowers, Hope Hospice, 611 N. Walnut, New Braunfels, Texas 78130 is accepting memorial gifts in honor of Maxine Estess.
