Maxine Donovan July 02, 1927 – December 17, 2018 Share this obituary Local Florists Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card DONOVAN, Maxine A. age 91 of St. Paul passed away on 12-17-2018. Maxine was born in St Paul to George and Anna Haag on July 2, 1927. She spent her childhood on a farm in Nerstand, MN (long enough to perfect her throwing arm using shoes aimed at the German Shepard).
The family moved back to the cities when she entered high school and she graduated from Marshall in 1945. It was during high school she began her working career that would last until she was almost 90 years old. As a teenager she developed film at a photo shop and it left a lasting impression on her.
She would often talk about the inappropriate pictures the military guys were sending home to be developed. Maxine went to a two year college and worked as a secretary for a few years prior to becoming the manager of a wholesale furniture company, Chittenden & Eastman Co from aprox 1960 to 1989. When C&E closed, she did a few odd jobs but landed in her next career around 1990 at St. Paul Public Housing working in accounting.
She eventually retired from there in 2016. One of Maxine’s biggest goals was to not sit at home and she succeeded supremely. She enjoyed throwing away twenty bucks at the casino and watching the people for an afternoon.
She loved the library, bridge club, girls’ night out events, and going out to eat with friends. If you asked her for directions it would undoubtedly involve restaurants along the route as landmarks. She was a Eucharistic minister at St Joe’s hospital for 26 years and was working on how to manage returning to that with her walker just a few months ago.
Maxine loved to travel and spent many winter vacations in Hawaii in younger years. She enjoyed travelling with her daughter whenever possible with Iceland being one of their favorite spots. She travelled there the first time in 2005 and the last time in 2015.
She is preceded in death by husband, Thomas, and son, Kevin. Survived by daughter, Therese Wangler (Ron); grandchildren, Matthew & Lauren Wangler, also survived by many relatives and friends. Thank you to the Highlands of St Paul for making her transition to apartment living enjoyable.
She never once regretted moving out of her house. You spoiled her rotten and treated her like a queen. The assistance given during her last few months is greatly appreciated.
Thank you to the Schaller Shalom Home for their excellent care and compassion during her final days. Thank you to her cousins, Paul, Jean, Sue, and Joanne whose visits, calls, dinners, appt assistance provided her a much needed break from her daughter (she was getting a little tired of the same face always there). Thank you to Matt for his almost daily calls that brightened her day and kept her going.
Thank you to Lauren who spend many days helping her at her apartment or just sitting chatting with her. She treasured those times. A very special thanks to Michelle for her spa days, lunch dates and daily calls.
You were an unbelievably great friend to her. Maxine is from the Latin female version of Max which means “Great One”. She was appropriately named as she was a great wife, mother, grandmother, role model, and friend.
She may be gone from sight but not from our hearts. Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM Friday December 28th at Lumen Christi Catholic Church, 2055 Bohland Ave. Visitation one hour prior.
Interment Resurrection Cemetery. O’Halloran & Murphy, 651-698-0796 SERVICES Mass of Christian Burial Friday, December 28, 2018 Lumen Christi Catholic Church 2055 Bohland Ave.
