Maxine’s Obituary Maxine Maurer, age 93, of Mapleton, died Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the Mapleton Community Home. Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 6, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church, Mapleton. Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m., Sunday at the church and will continue one hour before service.

Private family interment will be in Beauford Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Beauford Oak Hill Cemetery, St. Jude, or Smile Train. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Maxine, the second of five children, was born December 13, 1925 in Carroll County, Missouri to Dewey and Opal (Crase) Owens. After losing both her parents at a very young age, she was moved to rural Mankato in 1935 and was raised by a special uncle and aunt, Albert and Laura Wurster. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1944 and was employed at the Blue Earth County Farm for 8 years.

Maxine was united in marriage to Eldo Maurer on January 8, 1951 in Mankato. They lived on the Maurer Farm in rural Beauford where she enjoyed being a farm wife and raising her children. Eldo and Maxine enjoyed wintering together in Superstition Shadows, AZ.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, ELCA and quilting circle, Boomerangs 4-H Club Leader, 4-H food project leader, and an avid Beauford Card Club member. Maxine enjoyed raising chickens, selling eggs, cooking, and baking, and was well known for making mints for many special occasions. Maxine was very proud of her chicken collection which adorned much of her home.

She enjoyed playing cards – especially pfeffer, canasta, and solitaire, as well as teaching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren various card games. Maxine is survived by her children, Cheryl Owens of Mapleton and Bruce (Kathy) Maurer of Beauford; six grandchildren, Jyl (David) Gartner of Mapleton, Apryl (Quinten) Cazier of Afton, WY, Angela (Keith) Hoy of Horace, ND, Stephanie (Andrew) Lundquist of Medina, MN, Miranda (Kevin) Just of Blaine, MN, and Samantha (Ryan) Drinkwater of Denver, CO; 11 great-grandchildren, Maloree and Owen Gartner, Hayden and Madelyn Cazier, Krista and Erika Hoy, Bryce, Elias, and Max Just, Alexa and Asa Drinkwater; sister, Corene Hamre of Spring Valley; sister-in-law, Florence Owens of Hyde Park, VT; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldo on January 30, 1998; the parents whom raised her; brothers, Robert (Francis) Owens and Homer Lee Owens; sister, Lorene (Ervin) Berndt; brother-in-law, Joe Hamre; special cousin, Harold Wurster; nephews, Gene Owens and Gary Berndt.
