Melvin Devoe Howerton, 74, of Springdale, Arkansas passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, Arkansas. Melvin was born on May 2, 1944 in Compton, Arkansas. He was the son of Troy Howerton and Willow (Cline) Howerton.

He retired from McClinton Anchor after 32 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Springdale, later attending Turner Street Baptist and Fellowship Bible Church until his illness left him in a nursing home where he witnessed and attended church service at the facility. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Marilyn Howerton.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 27 years, Peggy Howerton; five children, Rabecca Dally and husband Steven of Mt. Home, Stephen Howerton and wife Tonya of Siloam Springs, Michelle Mounce and husband Russell of Bentonville, Sheryl Roy and husband Craig of Rogers, and Andrea Kennedy and husband Keith of Tontitown; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; three brothers, Milford Howerton and wife Joann of Clyde, Ohio, Don Howerton of Springdale, and Derl Howerton and wife Kathy of Elm Springs; one sister, Sharon Rose and husband Leon of Hiwasse; numerous extended family members and friends and his loyal fur companion, Miss Brie. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Chapel in Springdale, Arkansas.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, December 21, 2018 at the funeral home with Pastor Charlie Foster officiating. Pallbearers will be his son in-laws, Russell Mounce, Craig Roy and Keith Kennedy and his grandsons, Stephen Howerton, Shawn Howerton, Haden Mounce and Colin Mounce. Committal service to follow at the Elm Springs Cemetery.

The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made in his name to the Children’s Heart Foundation at www. childrensheartfoundation.org in honor of his grandson, Carter James Kennedy. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Ozark Terrace in Rogers for the care they provided Melvin this past year.
