Melvin Elfring, age 86, of Cary, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at Fair Oaks Health Care Center in Crystal Lake. He was born July 19, 1932 in Bensenville, IL to Melvin W. And Caroline (Helfers) Elfring. Melvin proudly served in the United States Air Force.

He worked for the Navy civil defense, and then he became a valued employee of the United States Postal Service delivering mail in the northern suburbs. Formerly of River Grove, Melvin relocated to McHenry County in 1988. He… Read More » enjoyed fishing and traveling with his wife.

Melvin also loved going to road America for the auto races, watching the Bears, rooting for the Cubs, and was an avid Blackhawks fan. Melvin is survived by his wife, Kathleen; two sons, Brian (Monserratt) Elfring, Mark (Mollie) Elfring; and two grandchildren, Sarah, and Joshua. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie in 1984.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private in Mount Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst, IL.
