Merle’s Obituary Mr. Merle E. Covey, a Sparta resident, passed away at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Florence, KY on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the age of 82. He was the husband of Lucille Gordy Covey. Mr. Covey was retired after 25 years from Square D as an electrician maintenance employee.

He was a former EMT with Grant County Ambulance, a former captain with the Jonesville Fire Department, a former member of Grant County React, a member of Eagle Creek CB Emergency Team, a Radiation Defense Officer, a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church, he loved UK Basketball, Cincinnati Reds, going to yard sales with his wife and he loved to fish. Merle was born to the late Ervine Covey and Lula O’Hara Covey in Covington, KY on June 5, 1936. He married Lucille Gordy on February 8, 1961.

In addition to his wife Lucille, he is survived by sons, Ervin “Butch” Covey (Jennifer) of Sparta, KY, Wm. “Billy” Covey of Owenton, KY, daughters, Debbie Addington (Tom) of Sparta, KY, Angie Hagar, brothers, Donnie Covey (Alice) of Crittenden, KY, Bobby Covey (Beverly) of Verona, KY, Larry Covey (Nancy) of Crittenden, KY, Rickey Covey (Patricia) of Williamstown, KY, Denny Covey (Kay) of Dry Ridge, KY, sister in laws, Sue Covey and Linda Covey, both of Dry Ridge, KY, sisters, Sue Blackney (the late Jim) of Dry Ridge, KY, Helen Lawson (Jess) of Independence, 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Vicki Covey and two brothers, David and Mickey Covey.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 10am-1pm at the Elliston – Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown, KY. Funeral services will be at 1pm on Wednesday. Rev.

Robert L. Kiper and Rev. Gene Hill will be officiating the services. Burial will follow in the Hill Crest Cemetery in Dry Ridge, KY.
