Merlin Crockett, 80, Pocatello, Passed away May 12, 2018. Born January 23rd, 1938 in Glenn’s Ferry Idaho to Wanda Wilson Crockett and A. David Crockett. 1941,his family moved to California where his father worked in a defense plant.

After the war was over his family moved back to Glens Ferry, Idaho and started Crockett Dairy. At the age of 12 Merlin and his family moved to Pocatello where his father worked at FMC. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1957.

July 18th 1958 he married Shirley Jean Roberts at the Idaho Falls Temple and were happily married just under 60 years. Merlin & Shirley had 4 boys and 1 daughter, Keith (Sylvia) Crockett, Brad Crockett (deceased), Kenneth Crockett, Todd (Lisa) Crockett and Karen Jeanelle Crockett. They have 9 grandkids and 13 great grandkids.

Merlin retired from the US postal service, he was also a gun smith and loved working with his brother David at Davy Crockett’s gun shop. Merlin may not have been an educator but you can ask anyone that ever went out into the wilderness with him that they learned something new each time. His love for hunting and exploring taught his kids and everyone around him how to respect and enjoy the outdoors.

We never went hungry he and Shirley could cook up a mean dutch oven dinner to feed an army. At the time of his death he was the acting Mayor of Crockettville Spring Creek, Salmon, Idaho. He loved his family and spending time with them.

He had several callings in the LDS church. He completed 3 missions and was ordained a high priest. Merlin was a Sunday school president, a second counselor in the Elder’s Quorum, and an Elder’s Quorum teacher.

Church was an important part of his life and a place where he made many friends. He is survived by his lovely wife, 4 kids, grandchildren, great grandchildren, 2 brothers Earl (Nadine) Crockett, Gene (Julie) Crockett, and 2 sisters Nedra (Richard) Baldwin, Cheryl (Shane) Larson. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Brad and 2 Brothers David and Gale Crockett.

The Family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday May 18th in the Manning Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave Pocatello Idaho. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 19th at the Alameda LDS 3rd ward at 954 E. Walnut in Pocatello Idaho. Visitation from 10-10:45am.

Services at 11am. Dedication of the grave site will be at the Downey cemetery at 3pm.
