Pearl, Michael D. 1942 – 2019 Michael D. Pearl, 76, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019 after an 18-month battle with prostate cancer. He was born on October 28, 1942 to Dugan H. and Cordelia Antoinette (Vokoun) Pearl in Oakland, California; then raised in Coquille, Oregon. After Mike graduated from Coquille High School in 1961, he attended Oregon State University where he played baseball.

Baseball was a lifelong passion for Mike, leading him to coach his son, Joey from t-ball through varsity at Bishop Garcia Diego High School. He continued to coach both baseball and football at Bishop long after Joey graduated. Additionally, he was one of the founders and Hall-of-Fame inductee of the Santa Barbara Foresters, a semi-professional summer baseball league.

Mike truly enjoyed coaching, mentoring youth, and watching them go on to succeed. In 1965, Mike enlisted in the Army and served overseas. After his service, while in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, he met his wife, Gail.

They were married in 1974 in Illinois, and then traveled across the United States in their VW Camper, eventually settling in Santa Barbara. For over fifteen years, Mike owned and managed local gas stations for World Oil Company. He also managed properties for Westpac Shelter Corporation.

In 1993, he joined his wife, Gail in real estate where they established themselves as the successful duo, “Pearl & Pearl”. Mike not only took pride in their business, but he truly valued the friendships he developed and helping others fulfill their dreams. Mike was an avid golfer and fisherman.

He enjoyed spending time in his garden, tending the BBQ, reading and hanging out with his grandkids. Mike is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gail (Lee) Pearl; his son, Joseph Pearl and his wife, Domenica; three grandchildren, Savina, Audrey, and Micah Pearl; brother Matthew and his partner, David Komeiji. A public memorial will take place on Saturday, February 2 at 11:00am at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Goleta, with a celebration of life to follow.
